Is Out of Africa (soundtrack) by John Barry. A very good choice in my opinion. I remember that their coach Ingo Steuer and his partner Mandy Wötzel used this back in 1998 as their SP. Maybe Aljona created costumes which are a bit inspired by theirs and the movie.
.
Steuer created this program within 4 weeks and they plan to skate it at this weekend’s Skate Canada, possibility at the Grand Prix Final in Tokyo and at the Europeans in Tallinn before they want to fight for the Gold medal in Vancouver. Beside that, they want to show their new program at some shows, so I really hope also at the World’s best on Ice event in Krefeld, because I am curious how this program looks like live.
I really love their new LP, although I don’t really understand the costumes but I seriously think they will get a problem with their music. As I already mentioned after seeing their program off ice I clearly hear some lyrics and vocal music in it and I’m wondering why they didn’t get a deduction for it. Maybe yesterday the judges decided not to be that strict in a small competition like the Nebelhorn Trophy but I really think this will change when it comes down to bigger competitions like Worlds or Olympics. It reminds me a bit of Joubert’s All for you SP, when he got a deduction for vocal music only at Worlds 2008 but not in previous events like Grand Prixs or Euros.
At a charity event in Dresden last week Aljona and Robin showed some parts of their new LP, which they will skate in Oberstdorf tonight on ice for the first time. In an interview I read that Aljona’s Dad worked with them over the summer as their athletic coach and here they show a lot of difficult lifts (some really remind me on moves from ice dance). I think this is definitely a program to win an Olympic medal though I am a bit concerned about the vocals at the beginning. Anyway enjoy it.
…is: „You’ll never walk alone“ by André Rieu. My first thought was: Holy shit! But that was also my first thought when they skated to Asoka, Lost in Space and Bon Voyage and I loved these programs. Because Ingo said that it will be a special composition for them it maybe will fit them more than I now think it will be. I can’t wait for the Nebelhorn Trophy.
According to some (not that serious) German newspapers, Tanja Szewczenko plans to participate at the Olympics 2010 in Vancouver as a pair skater. She trains with Norman Jeschke (14th at Salt Lake City Olympics with Mariana Kautz) for some years now and skated with him in the German soap-opera “Alles was zählt” aswell as at the Holiday on Ice Shows.
Last year she ended her TV career because she wanted to focus more on skating again and signed a new contract for Holiday on Ice. Tanja was 3rd in Single skating at the 1998 worlds, skated at the 1996 Olympics and finished 6th there. At the 1998 Olympics she had to withdrawn because of an injury. Now she wants to try pairs with Jeschke and get a good result in Vancouver, she said to “Rheinische Presse”.
“This is my last chance, in Sotchi I will be too old!” Tanja Szewczenko
Naaa I’m just kidding, sorry. Of course Aljona stays in Pair skating and she and her partner Robin work hard on their new programs. Last weekend the Germans Aljona Savchenko, Robin Szolkowy and their coach Ingo Steuer attended a handball match in Chemnitz. All of them tried three 7-meter throws against a young goalkeeper from SSV Rottluf.
While Aljona missed all , Robin and Ingo made some goals. Afterwards they signed autographs for the fans.
They had a great time and Ingo talked about the different training methods. Sprint, high jump and conditioning aswell as working with a medicine ball and he thought about maybe adding handball for a change
Further Ingo said that his pair trains 8 hours every day, Saturday only 4 hours and Sunday is off. They want to stabilize their elements and make them look effortless and hope for a good start at the Nebelhorn Trophy at the end of this month. So I do
